A Secret Slice of Home in the Heart of the City: Giuseppe’s Café

A Secret Slice of Home in the Heart of the City: Giuseppe’s Café

Tucked away on an inconspicuous corner in the Gable Square district in the South Side of Birmingham sits a small restaurant with lots of character, and it’s the perfect dining spot for people with lots of appetite.

Opened in 2002, Giuseppe’s Café is conveniently located in the heart of the city. Despite its central location, the Italian café remains one of those places that you only discover either through a happy accident or word of mouth.

A friend and I just happened to come across Giuseppe’s Café as we drove aimlessly around the city, and we immediately fell in love with the quaint, charming restaurant. With award-winning pizza and classic pasta dishes, it is no surprise that it was voted Alabama’s Best Kept Secret by Travelocity.com.

Everything on their menu is made from scratch, from the Italian vinaigrette to the fettucine alfredo. And coming from someone who has tried nearly everything their menu has to offer over the years, trust me, you can’t really go wrong— no matter what you choose.

It’s not just the food that keeps those in the know coming back for more. Giuseppe’s staff epitomizes southern hospitality and community, and its small interior maintains that home sweet home feeling. Almost all of the staff has worked there since the café’s opening, and they make both the regulars and newcomers feel like family.

So if you’re feeling a little homesick, a home-cooked meal and the family vibes from Giuseppe’s Café has you covered.

Giuseppe’s Café is open for in-person dining at a limited capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions. Four tables are available inside and four tables are available outside on a first come first serve basis. Check them out at 925 8th Street South, Birmingham, Al, 35205.
