Charlie Willams is a senior at Samford University. Williams believes Gen Z has a transactional dating culture because people rather have endless options and open-ended relationships than committing to one person.
“That’s why we have ‘just talking’. Dating has become an end to itself.” said Williams.
Williams, too, believes Gen Z lost the art of pursuing. “I think part of it has to do with the Gender Divide. Because of this Gen Z’s brains are wired differently which has increased the divide.” Said Williams.
Anna Kolbie is a senior at Samford University. When asked for Kolbie’s opinion about social media’s influence on dating she said, “men no longer pursue women.” Before social media the only way for men to score a date: going up and talking to women. Now the social norm is to meet someone over snapchat, which prevents one from seeking deeper romantic relationships.
Kolbie also believes social media paints unrealistic portraits of people, ultimately making Gen Z for physical traits instead of personality.
